In the United States, heart disease is the number one killer of women, even surpassing the various forms of cancer. Each year, 1 in 3 US women die of heart disease, killing approximately one woman every minute. Now is the time to start changing those odds through healthy eating and exercise.

We all know exercise is good for you (both physically and emotionally), but did you also know that exercise lowers your risk of stroke and heart disease, improves cholesterol and blood pressure, and more? The American Heart Association recommends you include 30 minutes of exercise into your daily routine.

If you don’t like to hit the gym, there are other activities you can incorporate in your routine. Walking around your neighborhood, taking a dance class, weight training, practicing yoga and tai chi, or even taking a martial art class can all help you live an active and healthy life.

Foods and supplements rich in omega-3 fatty acids are another great way to improve your heart health. Studies have shown that incorporating omega-3s into your diet can help lower your risk for heart attack, stroke, and blood pressure.
